We are looking to bring on a Payroll Director to join our organisation. Reporting into the Vice-President, Compensation and Systems, this position will manage and lead the overall payroll team and all its functions in Canada with accuracy.

Job Responsibilities:

Payroll Management

  • Responsible for the timely and accurate processing of both hourly and salaried payrolls (bi-weekly) for our Canadian (3,000) employees.

  • Ensure employee pay records accuracy by processing payroll transactions and verifications in timely manner:

    • New hires, resignations/terminations, company or province transfers, promotions, contract extensions and leaves.

  • Year-end processing including preparation of fiscal documentation.

  • Ensuring payroll reporting meets internal and statutory obligations including financial, payroll and other related audits.

  • Ensures all financial controls are operating correctly, including preparation of account reconciliations, and other financial reporting requirements.

HR and Employee Support

  • Ensure effective support to HR Business Partners while liaising with the Payroll team to ensure proper flow of information.

  • Guide employees on the various procedures, policies or questions they may have on payroll, timesheets, benefits etc.


  • Manages and monitors the payroll system, identifies any issues and makes recommendations for improvements.

  • Streamlines and simplifies existing payroll and benefits processes to ensure they are fit for purpose and maximizing system capabilities.

Job requirements:


  • Education:
    • University degree in Human Resources, Accounting or equivalent
    • Certification from the Canadian Payroll Association
  • Experience:
    • Ten (10) years’ experience working within the payroll field in a unionized environment
    • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a supervisory role
    • Expert knowledge of a Human Resource Management System (Workday is an asset)
    • Past experience with payroll application development - through recommendations and input
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets
    • Excellent communication skills in French & English - verbal / written
    • Strong focus on customer service
    • Autonomous with the ability to work in a team-driven environment
    • Demonstrate rigor in the management of files
    • Very good interpersonal skills
