Job Responsibilities:

Position summary:

The Director of Financial Reporting is responsible for the process of preparing the quarterly public financial reports as well as the annual report of Cogeco Inc. and Cogeco Communications Inc., two public companies with a combined market capitalization of more than 5 billion.  Cogeco operates in the telecommunications sector in Canada as well as in the United States.

He is responsible for coordinating the quarterly review and annual audit processes of the public documents of the two companies before they get reviewed and approved by members of senior management and the Board of Directors of Cogeco inc. and Cogeco Communications inc.

He monitors changes in accounting standards (IFRS and US GAAP) and coordinates their application and uniformity across the various business units. He also monitors securities rules for public disclosure. The incumbent is also responsible for the consolidation of the annual budgets and quarterly forecasts of Cogeco Inc. and Cogeco Communications Inc.

The Director of Financial Reporting has two direct reports (two assistant directors, financial reporting).


Job requirements:


  • Responsible for coordinating the preparation of quarterly public financial reports and annual reports of Cogeco Inc. and Cogeco Communications Inc., including the preparation of press releases;

  • Participates in the review of monthly and quarterly operational results provided by the three business units in order to gain a good understanding of their operational results and subsequently reflect them into public financial reports. Constant interactions with Canadian and American operational teams;

  • Participates in due diligence processes related to acquisitions. Cogeco has made numerous acquisitions over its history and intends to further expand in the United States. The director of financial reporting also prepares post-acquisition financial information (purchase price allocation, notes to the financial statements);

  • Participates in the preparation and review of Cogeco Inc. and Cogeco Communications Inc. Annual Information Form in accordance with applicable securities laws;

  • Coordinates and supervises the preparation and submission of financial presentations and other financial documents for members of the Boards of Directors of Cogeco Inc. and Cogeco Communications Inc .;

  • Coordinates with the external auditors the quarterly review and the annual audit of both public companies, Cogeco Inc. and Cogeco Communications Inc.;

  • Oversees the review of any other financial document before their public issuance (Investor Presentations, Fact Sheet, Annual Meeting Presentations, etc.);

  • Responsible for coordinating the annual budget process as well as the establishment of quarterly forecasts and public financial guidance;

  • Coordinates and supervises the preparation of audited financial statements of Cogeco and Atlantic Broadband, Cogeco’s american subsidiary, for the purpose of issuing private and public debt;

  • Coordinates the preparation of financial information relating to Canadian pension plans;

  • Monitors changes in accounting standards and securities regulations and oversees the preparation of position papers on their application. Coordinates their application with the various business units;

  • Acts as a resource and support person with regard to any consultation regarding non-routine or complex transactions or events.

Interacts regularly with members of the management team (CFO, VP Finance, members of the management team of business units).
