Reporting to the Director of Cyber Security, the principal network security architect is mandated to develop and oversee the methodology of network security architecture as it relates to business needs as well as compliance, risk management, and respect of Cogeco’s security management framework.  

The security architect also designs and implements the security architecture model for internal and external networks as well as its roadmap. He provides guidelines and drafts security standards, actively contributes to the security of project deliverables, and serves as an expert in solving technical challenges.

 

Job Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Defines, designs and implements the network security architecture.
  • Implements architecture patterns making it possible to ensure the security of “by design” networks.  
  • Works in close collaboration with officials responsible for security in subsidiaries and business units.  
  • Identifies weaknesses, potential vulnerabilities and network risks in collaboration with the CCSD’s Risk and Governance unit (Corporate Cyber Security Department). 
  • Secures networks based on identified risks as well as requirements set forth in security documents.  
  • Designs network architecture highly resilient to technological threats.
  • Ensures that contributions comply with Cogeco’s security management framework, documentation, and approved security standards (NIST CSF, NIST 800, CIS Benchmark, ITIL, FAIR).
  • Secures networks based on identified risks as well as requirements set forth in security documents.   
  • Analyzes and assesses requests for exemptions from security requirements and proposes mitigating measures if required.  
  • Designs SMART security solutions (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely).  
  • Harmonizes and standardizes network security across all business units.  
  • Identifies and maps networks used by the systems and keep them up to date over time. 
  • Works in close collaboration with security experts and operational security teams.
  • Actively contributes to the development of security policies and standards.  
  • Contributes to the security roadmap.
  • Serves as an expert in analyzing and solving network security incidents.  
  • Manages escalations in compliance with the process for resolving issues.  
  • Ensures compliance of the planning and quality of architecture deliverables.  
  • Identifies potential network issues and proposes solutions in a collaborative fashion.  
  • Collaborates with the Internal Audit Vice-President on a regular basis.  
  • Collaborates on the design and improvement of contribution processes.  
  • Ensures client satisfaction with each contribution.  
  • Ensures constant collaboration with operational security teams as well as the CCSD’s team.  
  • Supports management decisions and the strategic security plan.   
  • Ensures constant collaboration with operational security teams.

Job requirements:

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • 15 years’ experience in computer science, including 10 years in cyber security. 
  • 5 years’ experience in network security architecture.  
  • 5 years’ experience in the use and implementation of at least 4 of the following tools: CISCO, Radware, Paloalto, Fortinet, Checkpoint, Citrix Netscaler.
  • Experience with a telecommunications firm is an asset.  

 

SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

  • Strong experience in internal and external network security.
  • Strong experience in network architecture: LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, TCP/IP, VoIP, Cisco Routers / Switches, VMware NSX, Network Monitoring.
  • Strong technical knowledge of routing and switching protocols, notably TCP / IP, STP, EIGRP, BGP, IPSec, MPLS, SD-WAN, QoS, and the configuration of complex routing protocols.
  • Strong knowledge of the following platforms: Windows, Linux, Virtualization (VMware / vRA, Hyper-V, PowerVC, Citrix).
  • Strong experience in isolation and micro segmentation (physical and virtual): Firewall, ACL, Web Filtering.
  • Strong experience in the architecture of MPLS and Internet Backbone networks .
  • Experience in network security (SSL, AES, VPN, etc.).
  • Experience in CDN (content delivery management) network architecture.
  • Experience in telephone and cellular network architecture .
  • Experience in network virtualization.
  • Experience in the management of authentication certificates.
  • Experience in Zero Trust Model architecture.
  • Experience in systems and process automation.
  • Experience in the design of network monitoring and alerting systems.
  • Strong knowledge of security reference systems (NIST CSF, NIST 800 Series, FAIR, CIS Benchmark, ITIL).
  • Knowledge of applicable legal and regulatory environments (Protection of personal information, regulation of listed companies, protection of telecom infrastructures).
  • Good interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong ability to grasp business needs and potential issues related to the security plan and compliance.
  • Strong ability to establish good working relations with others and working as part of a team.
  • Ability to show judgement and discretion in dealing with confidential information .
  • Experience in the coordination of several projects.
  • Excellent ability to draft security documents and operating processes (FR/EN).
  • Strong ability to effectively carry out several tasks simultaneously in a fast and constraining environment .
  • Ability to manage complex technical and/or interpersonal problems.
  • Ability to be creative in resolving issues . 
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
